We’re outraged that anyone would beat an animal, but sadly, anti-cruelty veterinarians at ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital see blunt-force trauma cases like Bentley’s all the time. They also see animals starved, or neglected so long their little bodies are covered in infection and they can no longer stand up or even lift their heads.
At the ASPCA, Bentley had X-rays, a CT scan, an MRI and a consultation with a veterinary neurologist to diagnose the extent of his injuries. Like all injured dogs we rescue, he benefited from round-the-clock care that gave him the best chance possible to recover.
Bentley was a fighter from the get-go, improving every day until he overcame the odds and walked again. It’s nothing short of miraculous—and a testament to ASPCA veterinarians and hospital staff who nursed him back to health—that today he is a beloved pet who enjoys snuggling and playing with other dogs, and he has learned to trust humans again.
Unfortunately, ASPCA veterinarians see many dogs and cats who don’t pull through.
We won’t abide this kind of cruelty, and we’re working every day to stop it. At the same time, we’re fighting to ensure that abusers like the man who kicked Bentley pay for their heinous crimes.
